Plan Online Less has been quite a success.
I have been trying to spend less unproductive time online for a while.
Apart from the necessary online trading,
~ less livejournal
~ less chat on msn
~ less hardwarezone
~ less "dating sites"
~ less crap on msn

So far so good.
Now, I am taking it to new heights, I will be totally offline, at least until I get a new PC.
It's been 28 days and counting. I'll be returning the laptop in a while tonite, it's only right to.
Meanwhile, I will be still around somewhere offline. =)

The Day of Friends..

Had Dim Sum with A + B earlier.
Bumped into T + G + B + D before that.

Hahha, I'm gonna read back one day, and I don't know what A + B + T + G + B + D stands for.
Again...

Had Dim Sum with Alvin + Ben earlier at the much raved about Victor's Kitchen, maybe I had overly high expectations reading all that good reviews in various makan blogs, the food was decent for the price ($2.50 to $3.50), but not exactly fantastic. I liked the Victor's King Prawn Dumpling and Yutiao Cheong Fun. If you are thinking of going, try to be there from 1pm to 1:30pm, we noticed a long queue from 2pm to 3pm. I took some photos, but somehow, it doesn't look that delectable...

I wanna to be at 御膳房, diagonally across Prudential Hotel in Hong Kong, like now!

As I was quite early, I cruised walked around and I saw Grace, Tracy, Branden & later Dominic who were there shopping for more Bandai robots.

Alvin got me some new Absolut bottles!! In fact 90% of my collection came from him. =D

Completed a 40 min walk/jog/run (range Spd 5 to 13) with the help of LOST at Fitness First, I was totally distracted by the TV. It works like a hypnotic mechanism on me, I wasn't even consciously aware that I've actually ran beyond my usual threshold. Bumped into natlegin and later mugboi on my way out.

Was shopping for toiletries at Chinatown and I bumped into a classmate from my Japanese school, she had 7 different bottles of shower foam in her basket. I reckoned that was the first time she chanced upon that place?

Met エサマ for a nice dinner, he excitedly showed me a new CD he bought, and it happened to be a Pacific Moon CD. I never actually quite expect to come across anyone I know who would buy that, yet another of those unexpected things in common.

As エサマ dropped me off at my place, I bumped into K ...

What an exciting day, may tomorrow be better.

預感

The first time I heard this song was a really long time ago, way before 陳奕迅 became really famous. I've never been able to find it in KTVs though. Ipod Party Shuffle mode and I got hit by it again.

Who's this 周定緯?
His Mandarin is definitely much better considering that he's Taiwanese, different but in a very good way. But that little dance and his singing style totally changed the feel of the song. It just doesn't go with the melancholic lyrics. I still prefer Eason Chen's darker version.

Free Entry for Foreigners, NS for Singaporeans

Where can I apply for an upgrade to PR?

Club Mad
http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20080604-68825.html

He had planned a night of revelry with friends at St James Power Station last Saturday, but when National University of Singapore student Matthew Rao flashed his identity card (IC) at the door of the popular nightclub, he was requested to pay the $20 cover charge.

His four friends - from England, Germany, France and Finland - filed in for free.

The reason: They were foreign students on exchange in Singapore, while he was local.

"I thought the IC was for age verification, but the bouncers said I had to pay because it was proof I was Singaporean," Mr Rao, 25, recalled. He was upset because the policy seemed unfair and discriminatory.

"Why should foreign students get different treatment? If they live here, why shouldn't they pay as well?" he added.

Ms Cheryl Khong, marketing manager at St James, confirmed its policy of giving foreign guests free entry any day of the week if they produce a valid foreign student pass. The little-publicised policy has existed since St James opened in 2006, but it only applies to Powerhouse, the nightspot's main dance room.

Ms Khong said the policy aimed to "encourage a cosmopolitan party atmosphere for our young partygoers" and added that St James regularly hosts parties thrown by local tertiary institutions and students.

Still, Mr Rao said that the incident has changed his mind  about frequenting theclub.

"I like rules that are fair and  open. If the club can at least publicise those rules on the door, then I'll respect them."

Japanese Buffet?

Last night, my recommendation was sought for a decent Japanese buffet, reasonably priced with good variety, something exotic and different, other than the "usuals" (like Ikoi, Hanabi, Honjin, Kushinbo etc)

Minori Dining & Sake Bar

Photo from Camemberu
More pictures

I was half tempted to suggest Minori Dining & Sake Bar after I saw the buffet menu ($28 lunch/$32 dinner) on their website, the range of sashimi seems quite impressive and they have yakitori as well! It's opened by the previous owners of Hanabi, should be around that standard? But I've not been there personally, so can't really much about the food quality from the pictures.

I just had to come across some terrible reviews on service @ minori, poor service is something I can't accept. If you're definitely charging the 10% service charge, then at least have the minimum decency to give people what they will have to pay for?

I pass ...

While searching, I found these 2 other Japanese restaurants at Camemberu's blog, he takes really good pictures with just a plain old Sony DSC-W50
Wasabi Bistro at Mandarin Oriental (Sunday Brunch $58 or $118)

Sushi Kizuzawa ($29 lunch/$39 dinner)
Selling point - incredible selection of sushi, including sea urchin!

Bad Choices..

Reminder to self .. What not to buy.

Midnite salt crave the other night
~ Bought Calbee Hot & Spicy because of some Japanese word on the packaging.
~~~ Japanese words doesn't mean a thing, stick to Redrock Deli, Ruffles, Lays or even Twistee. First time I felt nauseous with chips.
~~~~~ Even better, skip it altogether, if not at least get quality fats.

Don't-know-what-to-eat-at-Marina-Square
~ I'm sick of MOF, just right after I paid $10 to apply for a membership card, great ...
~~~  Changing Appetites's $18 (w GST/10%) fusion Zup Chye Png was nonsense, for that price, if the taste fails, at least some effort on presentation?
~~~~~ It's a place for mudpies, not for mains, at least not what I ordered.

Citrus Fire Chicken & Prawn Set? $15.90
~ Prawns with green pepper, onion, pineapple on a burnt wooden skewer,
~ A piece of tired looking chicken drown in orange sauce, hardly delectable.
~ Yellow rice (saffron?) which tasted like last week's leftover re-re-re-fried.
~ 2 out of place carrot and zucchini, just to fill up the empty space on the plate.

I loved the zucchini (only) ... and of course the Frankenstein Mudpie.
It's easily $60 to $70 for 2 if you both order a main, a drink and a dessert each

Extra ingredients doesn't mean better
~ Same price, both made in Japan, not Tiongkok, 5 pieces 抹茶ふんわり焼 with Azuki beans or 6 pieces どら焼 with Azuki beans + chestnuts
~~~ Bells and whistles (chestnut and the extra piece) were there to justify for the cost and to compensate for the lack of quality.
~~~~~ どら焼 tasted disgustingly sweet and it's so soggy that it sticks to the wrapper. よるさないよ?!

The bad, the very bad and the priceless ...

The bad...
It quite rare that Japanese confectionery would tastes bad, perhaps it's just not my kinda thing? I didn't like either of these.
There was another brand of green tea from Shizuoka up on sale as well, but I didn't stop to try, prices are quite reasonable.
Maybe I should go tomorrow, or another day, it's on sale till 27th May at Isetan B1.

The very bad ...
I saw my so called "Limited Ed" ASICS shoes at Isetan, right there on the shelf like any other regular model, it's selling slightly cheaper than what I paid for and on top of that was a 15% discount for normal items, including my pair. I'm not regretting my purchase, it's a pair of lovely shoes, but I supposed that Feder place offers good advice like a doctor's or a shrink's. After your initial consultation (with fees duly paid), you understand your own condition, you are free to OTC than go to back to them again, unless there are changes or ill advice was given earlier.

(I appreciate any form of a goodwill discount or at the minimum, charge the "market rates".)

The priceless ...
I picked up quite a few items at Takashimaya earlier during the 10% off Taka card holder sale. When it's time for payment, I couldn't find my Taka card in my wallet, it's not in my card holder either! The cashier was almost drumming her fingers ... I had to abandon everything. -_-
Should I even go tomorrow again? Considering just how I had to squeeze through the insane crowd ...

Good Advice doesn't come free ..

For the first time ever, I paid full price for a pair of shoes based on good advice given by the sales person. Consider that ethical, it's not something I do often, but his service and product knowledge was well worth that 15% discount which I could easily get from Queensway. Perhaps it's also not often that I come across sales people who know their stuff really well, most of them are trying to pull a fast one or randomly recommend something which gives them the highest commission rate or sales target, and hopefully you will just buy something after they have wasted their time talking to you.

My shoe hunting adventures started in Adidas, I was told that I overpronate after this "test run" and I should be getting "motion control shoes" (AdiStar - the priciest model in the shop). I commented that it's over budget and I got answers like, "All these over here also can la, from $120 to $150.."

Right ... maybe Nike also can lor?

Not convinced at all, I dropped by Asics. Again, the guy introduced "the hottest, best and most sellable shoe" ASICS Kinsei, I gave a look of disgust at the price ($345) and I commented, so that's the most sellable, one modelfits all shoe which every professional runner pays for? Don't you need to know if I fit that shoe profile? You know, flat, normal, high arch?

I did the step-on-the-board test and I got similar results. Oh, you should be getting "maximum support shoes" then, Asics Evolution & Asics Foundation. But ... Asics Kinsei is still the BEST. I went on the Internet and read up at runnersworld, seems like those shoes mentioned above are meant for people that are 80kg, flat feet and .. So, it's a pair of heavy duty shoes meant to withstand 80kg shock from each stride.

Not that suitable for me isn't it?

By luck, by chance, I walked into Feder Sports Running Specialist at Peninsula Plaza. The collection of Asics, Saucony, Mizuno, adidas, New Balance, Nike, Brooks was overwhelming. I was awestruck by what the shop has to offer for just Asics alone.

The guy noticed me and he wants to know what I'm looking for, "Evolution/Foundation Asics put where ah?". You have flat feet meh?? was his immediate response, Aren't you like around 60kg more or less? You shouldn't be wearing that.

I'm impressed already. =)

The Mizuno Wave Creation that you are wearing now is meant for normal foot, the ones that you asked for it is much harder and it's meant for flat foot, you might not be able to handle, you should be looking at the Asics Kayano range.

Go on, please continue!

What followed was a series of feet measuring, cat walking in his shop. "You have a little overpronate and you don't have flat feet, I can still see your arch". "By the way, your Mizuno should be 1/2 size smaller for the perfect fit and you should have gotten Nirvana and not Wave Creation, don't just go for looks!"

Ok, I admit, I was superficial, I bought that Mizuno based on looks back then, it's easily the most stylo pair on the shelf... I knew nuts about suitability or functionality back then,  a pair of shoes was just a pair of shoes to me, till I developed all sorts of pains.
It's important that you get a pair that fits you perfectly based on your feet. Nike/Adidas are fashion shoes, soles separate from shoes is a common sight, I don't recommend them for proper running at all.

Somehow, I got reminded of how I screwed up my own feet and knees when I bought that wretched pair of Nike FREE 5.0 quite a while back. It was so flexible, I was running at Speed 16 on the treadmill, almost flying. But the whole idea of Nike FREE was to emulate barefoot running, I supposed I rushed too much into it at one go.

But it wasn't durable at all, the sides were made of suede cloth (?) and mesh within, it freaking tore within a month!

You should be looking at Japanese brands, Mizuno & Asics, they suit you. Asian sizes. I likey Japanese! Kinsei is not a shoe for everyone by the way, not you, it's simply expensive, that's about it. You can try this Kayano. Was it placebo or was I psychologically affected by words? I love the shoes and the colors. I decided on a pair of Asics eventually. Then the dilemma, should I be practical and just buy at Queensway where I can get at 15% discount? Well, perhaps not. After all, he dished out all his knowledge without qualms so that I get the perfect pair meant for my feet. I'd be damned if I did. So I bought it from him, full price, no discount. =)

Ermss, I think 13 doesn't refer to ze size...
But Fabrique En Chine does refer to Made in China. -_-

We made several small talks, seems like all those shoes that I've been wearing are giving me cumulative serious problems.
What do these have in common? They are nice, they are sleek, they look great. They are meant for people with high arch, which I'm not.

If you need answers to your screaming feet, look for Jeffrey Chong at #02-53, Feder Sports, Peninsula Plaza.
Perhaps you can try to ask for a discount, me being a brain whore was so hypnotised by the sudden influx of knowledge that I lost my tongue. =P~~

PS. Only gripe, I think he sold me an older model? I realised there's Kayano 14 released in 2008.

Who wants to be the next corpse?

Quote from K :

You don't read about suicides in blogs, they only appear in the obituary section.

Morbid discussion, but it somehow makes sense.
People with a death wish don't blog about it, they just go.
When they do talk/blog about it, all they seek is attention.
Life goes on even if they didn't get any.

I read 3 in blogs, they are still well and alive. Thank goodness.
I've seen 2 in the obituary since the start of 2008, nobody knew why, ever.

Running Shoes..

My Mizuno Wave Creation is dying, been using it to walk too often, wearing it out prematurely.
I'm getting shin pains, ankle pains from my runs these days, the cushioning must be gone..

I tried ..
~ Asics Kinsei -- price beyond reach. (like what? $345??)
~ Asics Evolution 3 -- still quite ridiculously expensive. ($220++?)
or was it Ascis Foundation? I can't remember, apart from the nice shade of blue.

~ Adidas Adistar - the color is a bore.  ($220+)
~ Adidas Supernova - as above. ($190+)

Actually, I'm a casual treadmill runner cum walker, shouldn't really be spending on all the top range shoes.
So long the shoe matches my profile, normal feet with slight overpronate, and my preferred color, blue. I'm getting it.

Any recommendations?

Get your own cabin, bitch!

Commuters on public transport are a strange lot.
I shall refrain from referring to any nationality or race, because anyfuckingone can be a BITCH!

There's one particular group who thinks it's their goddamn nbcb rights to a seat.
When you do offer your seat to them, you don't get a word of thanks, not even a nod of appreciation.
This has happened to me more than once.

You get the subtle look, which says
"What took you so fucking long to give up your seat?"
"What are you looking at? You expect me to thank you?"
"Can't you see I'm pregnant? Now Fuck off!"

IMHO, these zero social graces bitches should remain standing if there were no seats, those labeled inconsiderate commuters who got their seats first should just remain seated! For Fuck's sake, STOP whining in the papers that no one's giving up their seats for you just because you seemingly need one. Pouting doesn't get you a seat either!

OPEN YOUR GAP and ask for it if you need to, it's highly impossible that you will be rejected.
And when you do get it, have some basic fucking manners to thank who you got it from.

Yes, I do understand how terribly impossible it must be for them to balance themselves in a bus/train with that burden. Hence, I do give them a seat whenever I can without them asking. But that nonchalance I'm-entitled-to-a-seat look is a disgust, courtesy works both ways. Only the one who's responsible for your plight owes you a living. (Read : the one who screwed you)
